The Scottish Musketeer is a marksman troop fielded by mostly the Kingdom of Sweden, and occasionally by the Polish Commonwealth.

These mercenary troops hailing from Scotland are armed with Wheelock Muskets, which have average firepower, and the iconic Scottish Broadsword, easily recognizable for its exquisitely decorated hand guard. Their uniforms, designated Scottish Musketeer uniforms, are unique among the nations of Eastern Europe, being plaid. The Scottish Musketeers further define their uniquely Scottish look with berets.

Tactics Edit

As gunpowder marksmen, Scottish Musketeers excel in firing lines, especially in tandem with their Eastern European comrades. Their Wheelock Muskets provide a decent firepower, while their Scottish Broadswords, which have above average cutting and stabbing abilities, give them an unexpectedly fierce edge in melee combat.

However, Scottish Musketeers are not without their weaknesses. Due to them wearing only clothing, they are weak to melee retaliation, especially from most types of cavalry.

Trivia Edit

  • Scotland and Scottish soldiers became heavily embroiled in the Thirty Years' War in continental Europe for mainly religious reasons. Scotland sent soldiers to Germany, Denmark-Norway, and Sweden, in an effort to aid its fellow Protestant nations. However, Scottish troops also (independently) traveled to Catholic countries, believing in the Catholic counter-reformation rather than Protestantism. This may explain why the Polish Commonwealth, a Catholic nation, sometimes fields Scottish Musketeers.
